Here Are the Very Fun MTV Movie Awards Noms, Which Were Announced on Snapchat Because It Is 2016

Some people might have thought that, with the conclusion of the Oscars at the end of February, the 2016 awards season was done with. Well, not so fast, general public! MTV still exists and so does the award it gives to movies tweens love. Yeah, that’s right, the MTV Movie Awards are coming up, and MTV has announced the nominees. Via Snapchat, of course, because it’s 2016.

I have no idea how Snapchat works, so I don’t know if that’s a good idea, but I will say that this crop of nominees is refreshing after three, four, or five months of the same movies getting award after award. MTV represents the common people, which is why Chris Pratt is nominated for Best Male Performer, and why Dakota Johnson is nominated for her breakthrough performance in Fifty Shades of Grey. Also, Spotlight is noticeably absent from all categories, because tweens don’t care about journalism, obviously.

The above probably all reads as sarcasm, but it is nice to see an awards show that caters so unabashedly to what is popular. It’s nice to see Spy get some love, and it’s also nice to see Creed, Star Wars, and Deadpool in the running for Movie of The Year — in fact, Star Wars leads the pack in nominations, with a total of 11.

See the full list of nominees below. The awards will air on MTV at 8 p.m. on April 10, and will be hosted by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
