Earlier this month we challenged Flavorpill enthusiasts and locavores to show us your neighborhood in the Create Flavorpill Local Contest. The idea was to mash up your favorite APIs, including (but not limited to) Google Maps, Google Calendar, Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, Friends Connect, Yelp, Craigslist, and Foursquare, along with the best local blogs, to create a dynamic page based on our event feed.
After wading through some great submissions, we’ve narrowed it down to two options that we think really capture the essence of Flavorpill Local. We’d like you to help us decide on the winner. Your comments will be considered in the judging process, and will help determine who takes home up to $4500 for their design.
A big thank you to our friends at Outside.in, Foursquare, and Meetup for sweetening the $1500 pot by $1000 a piece if the winning mashup uses their platform or API. Our winner will also receive a feature on Flavorwire, and the chance to head up our new Flavorpill Local team.
View the submissions below and let us know which one you prefer, and why. (Click through for detail.)

kinda boring
I think Mike’s team gives you more info on the main page, but Nirav’s team has got some better usability/design happening. I like how submission 2 has a map showing all the spots in my area there’s stuff to go to.
i want a combination of the 2!! mikes is visually appealing, simplified and quick access to what is happening right now (today) and what is free and it doesnt make my brain overload if i just want to find something quick. nirav’s is just too much going on upon first glance, the map is too much for me to handle before coffee, but i love the quick access to the twitter/facebook icons.
Seriously? Is that all you got out of this competition? These are not good at all.
nirav ftw.
I like Nirav’s. I like to be able to scroll down with my eyes and see events and addresses fast.
I like Nirav’s! The usability just seems really intuitive and familiar while giving me a lot of really useful information.
I like the 2nd one. It gives me all the information I’m looking for right away but not in an overwhelming way. I vote for Nirav’s.
Nirav’s design has overall better concept and usability. It provides all of the information that you require in one area. Mike’s is good but Nirav is better.
I also like Nirav’s.
Showing all the events on a single map seems to make the most sense.
Nirav’s design is easier to digest and I love being able to quickly see and share events without having to click around. In my opinion, Mike’s design has way too much text to read and lots of white space in the results.
I like Nirav’s design and how it works. It’s simpler and grasps the idea of Flavorpill better I feel.
I like the look of the first design but the functionality of the second one. I vote for functionality.
I have to say that the second design, Nirav’s team, is more aesthetically pleasing. The first design is a little bit too disjointed. I appreciate, for example, that Nirav’s teem has all of the pins on one map.
I think the first one is (slightly) better geared toward a first time viewer but the second is much better suited to return viewers. I like that you can sift through more information quicker with design 2.
Vote: Nirav’s team
I like Nirav’s better – easier to see all the events fairly quickly and the twitter feed on the right is a cool way to see what people are talking about.
nirav’s teams usability is much better.
I definitely think a combination of the two would be ideal, but if i had to pick one, then Nirav’s has my vote. It is really simple, straight forward, and user friendly. Gets you straight to business.
Nirav, design 2.
I like Nirav’s.
I like Nirav’s.
Nirav’s design. :-)
Definitely Nirav’s design… it has higher user practicability and takes you a fraction of the time to obtain information in comparison to Mike’s design
Nirav’s design! Mike’s design seems to cover an entire city which sort of misses the point. I know it could be narrowed to fit an entire neighborhood, but Nirav’s design highlights only the relevant information.
