Watch Colbert Sing a Waffle House Song with Sturgill Simpson

You might not recognize the name, but Sturgill Simpson is one of the most exciting acts in country music right now. It makes perfect sense, then, that last night on the Late Show, he and Stephen Colbert decided to write a song called “No Shirts, No Shoes, No Knuckleheads” for the Waffle House. This seems like pure absurdity, and it is, but it’s absurdity with a purpose: the Waffle House actually has a jukebox filled with songs that are specifically about the Waffle House. (You can even buy a CD filled with those songs.) Sturgill and Colbert’s is pretty good, and should definitely be considered for inclusion on the next compilation. Maybe it’s too good, though, and not enough about waffles and sausage and toast and syrup? Maybe.

More importantly — depending on how much you love the Waffle House, at least, or whether or not you’re from the South — Simpson performed “Brace For Impact (Live A Little),” from his new album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.

Sturgill’s very good A Sailor’s Guide to Earth is out now. Expect to hear “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Knuckleheads” playing at a Waffle House near you sometime soon.
