Watch Margaret Cho and Awkwafina Demolish Stereotypes in “Green Tea” Rap

In honor of the last day of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Margaret Cho and rapper/comedian Awkwafina premiered their new video, “Green Tea,” yesterday on the blog Angry Asian Man. Pretty much every second is great, but look out for a quick Soon-Yi diss, the legendary “flip a stereotype, how an Asian bitch got concubines?” and of course, that “call your mom pussy.”

Despite some finding controversy in Cho’s 2015 Golden Globes North Korea bit, she’s also known as a legend for her trailblazing All American Girl series, and has been outspoken against the erasure of Asian-Americans, especially among the rise of #WhitewashedOUT, and about violence against women, as exemplified by last November’s “I Wanna Kill My Rapist.”

As for comedian/rapper Awkwafina, past hits include “NYC Bitche$” and “My Vag,” They’re funny and well-produced in their own right, but she says working with Cho has been a dream come true.

“I remember watching Margaret Cho with my grandmother on TV,” she said. “She was my hero, not only because she was funny, but because she showed me that it’s okay to be yourself, that it’s okay to be a brash yellow girl, and to be a strong and brave woman.”
