There’s a Maya Rudolph Guest-Starring Talking Heads Parody Episode Of ‘Documentary Now!’ on its Way

Fred Armisen and Bill Hader’s mockumentary series Documentary Now! will make a parody of Stop Making Sense, the famed 1984 Talking Heads concert film. The episode, “Test Pattern,” will air in the show’s second season, set to premiere on Thursday, August 18. Another noteworthy factor: it’ll costar Maya Rudolph.

IFC promises it will be “one of the greatest concerts that never really happened,” featuring the last concert of a band, of course called Test Pattern. Armisen is writing the songs.

Though the original concert is pretty absurdist already, it should be an interesting addition to an already-promising season. IFC has also announced parodies of Jiro Dreams of Sushi (“Juan Likes Rice and Chicken”), Salesman (“Globesmen”), and War Room (“The Bunker”).

There will be a live taping of the “Test Pattern,” hosted by John Mulaney, on July 7 in San Gabriel, California. Those interested can go by RSVPing on Facebook.
