Watch Aubrey Plaza’s Frightening Performance in the Trailer for ‘Ingrid Goes West’

Flavorwire Film Editor Jason Bailey caught the Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen-starring Ingrid Goes West at Sundance, and revealed that “a protagonist marching into a wedding and macing the bride is a helluva way to start your movie, and that scene gets a big laugh right at the top of Matt Spicer’s” indie. “But it also establishes the stakes of this pitch-black comedy,” he continued.

The just-released red band trailer for it does similarly: beginning with Plaza’s character Ingrid discovering she wasn’t invited to her friend’s the wedding, and then proceeding to crash and violently spice up the party. And so we have our introduction to the titular character, who goes on to move in the also-titular direction, to begin forcing her way into the life of an L.A. Insta-celebrity, played by Olsen. According to the official description, shared on Indiewire, “After a quick bond is forged between these unlikeliest of friends, the façade begins to crack in both women’s lives — with comically malicious results.”

The film is set for release on August 4. Watch the trailer:
