Afropunk Festival Line-Up Announced: Soul II Soul, Dizzee Rascal, Thundercat, Serpentwithfeet, More

More than a decade after its inception, the Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn remains one of New York’s best musical events. The line-ups are consistently well-curated and diverse, the space is pleasant (if crowded), and the crowd is full of people who make mere mortals like your hapless Flavorwire editor feel hopelessly, irredeemably uncool.

This year’s line-up has just been announced, and it looks pretty solid: the headliners include Soul II Soul, Dizzee Rascal, Gary Clark Jr., Macy Gray, SZA, The Cool Kids, Princess Nokia, and new Flavorwire favorite Serpentwithfeet. (Seriously, if you’ve not heard his EP Blisters, get thee to Bandcamp and listen.) There are also two “curated” stages; the first is curated by Saint Heron and features Sampha, Thundercat, Sinkane (“+ TBA special guests”), while the second is curated by Kaytranada and features Kaytranada, Nao, Sango, and J Rocc with Karriem Riggins. The festival takes place over the weekend of August 26 and 27 at Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene.
