Abbi and Ilana to Perform the ‘Wayne’s World’ Screenplay, Backed By an All Women Queen Tribute Band

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are momentarily leaving their broad city for Wayne’s world. Pitchfork reports that the duo whose series finally provided a platform for pegging will be giving a performance of the script of the film that finally provided a platform for “schwing,” which can really only be seen as a formula for a perhaps dangerous form of superpegging and/or an amusing comic evening. Said amusing comic evening will take place in San Francisco on June 3 as part of Comedy Central’s Colossal Clusterfest. It’s happening in honor of the 25th anniversary of the film about two rock loving losers and their public access TV show that gets bought by a studio.

In their Wayne’s World reading, Abbi will play Garth (originally Dana Carvey) while Glazer will play Wayne (originally Mike Meyers), casting that certainly befits both actors’ styles. The reading also includes a gaggle of other comedians, including Chris Gethard (who certainly has his own rich history with public-access television), Tig Notaro, Moshe Kasher, Ron Funches, John Michael Higgins, and Janet Varney. And, Tia Carrere will be back playing Cassandra, the character she first portrayed a quarter of a century ago.

The film, you’ll recall, used — and sparked revived cultural obsession with — Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and Abbi and Ilana’s reading will be accompanied by music from the all-women Queen cover band The Killer Queens.
