Celebratory Sculptures of Proud Plus-Size Women in All Their Nude Glory

Share:

Philadelphia-based artist Shona McAndrew, who we first learned about on Design You Trust, creates papier-mâché, plus-size women lounging around in all their glory, doing whatever they damn well please. Sometimes this includes pleasuring themselves, but it’s not a spectacle for the male gaze. McAndrew’s women openly explore their bodies and have no qualms about taking up space. They are depicted at home — intimate spaces that are at once familiar and almost fantastical — while other times they’re installed in real-world situations. The artist is part of the Museum of Sex’s NSFW: Female Gaze exhibit, co-curated by VICE Media’s Creators.
