Beautiful Fabric Self-Portraits That Celebrate Identity

Share:

The photo series When Fashion is Losing its Sense of Self by artist Roos van de Kieft is an exploration of identity as it should be, not shaped by outside influences like the fashion world or social media. (We first spotted the series on Fubiz.) Self-portraits are printed on gauzy, draped fabric and then photographed with the model. From Van de Kieft’s artist statement:

Nowadays social media puts an interesting lens on the creation of the self. We are building a visual record of ourselves for anyone to see but somehow it seems that this is much less about identity through ourselves, and more about the self through others. This project wants to shed light on the originality of every single person’s identity by showing their very own and unique flesh and skin on fabric.

It’s a beautiful and tender celebration of the self. Take a closer look in our gallery.
