Here in Atlanta, the book is among the 5.99 remainders at Barnes & Noble. And I found it among the remainders as far back as the fall. Strange.

I'd assume that the publisher is not willing to do a hardcover reprint when the PB is coming out so soon. Same goes for a bookstore — you're not going to do a big order on the hardcover if you know that the more desirable paperback will be available in just a couple of months.

Last time I looked, they had a bunch of copies at the Borders in Grosse Pointe, MI. Not that that helps anyone.
