If you’re like us, then the best part of going to see a movie — aside from the excuse to eat as much calorie-laden butter topping as you want — is watching the trailers. Sure, your friends may think it’s OK to skip out on them, but you know better than that. Trailers are how we know what movies to get excited for next, and when those great expectations aren’t met, we get upset. Here, a look back at the trailers for what appeared to be some of the best movies of the year, but turned out to be some of the worst.

Today at Flavorpill, we were shocked by TMZ’s fake JFK photo. We checked out John Waters‘s top ten movies of the year, but then felt sad because we didn’t see half of them. Netflix! We watched Vimeo’s favorite videos of 2009. We developed a case of Harry Potter fever when we saw that Entertainment Weekly had named the boy wizard the “most entertaining creation” of the decade. Do you agree? We argued over who was the tween of the decade (our vote goes to Robert Patterson [sic]). We realized that we’re not half as lazy as some people are. We celebrated suburban chain stores, and perused Facebook and Twitter’s top trends of 2009. And finally, we learned how to fake being an indie rock expert. Oy. Happy Monday!
OK, so maybe people haven’t always been huge fans of Facebook redesigns. But if there’s one mantra that Mark Zuckerberg subscribes to it’s: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” So, with that, sources from the social networking giant have leaked photos of yet another attempt of propelling Facebook into the future while keeping the masses and their qualms at bay. Have they succeeded? Well, you tell us.

Out of all of the best parts about the holiday season — eggnog, 24 hours of A Christmas Story, debaucherous holiday media parties — our favorite has to be the slew of very special Christmas episodes. From Urkel to The Office, here are some of our favorite storylines featuring the magic of Christmas, proving year after year that sitcoms may come and go, but cliche-ridden holiday plots last a lifetime.

Today at Flavorpill, we worried about 30 Rock‘s Grizz. We reveled in Courtney Love’s new Facebook photo. Sure, she may not have custody of Frances Bean anymore, but at least she’s got Michael Douglas! We spent the day practicing our best “kosher face” before we open our Hanukkah gifts tonight, praying that one of them is this distant relative of the Snuggie because we still don’t know the proper way to wear a scarf (it’s difficult, OK?!). We realized CNN is foolish and wrong when it comes to talking about The Simpsons, but not as foolish as Michelle Branch sounds on her Twitter feed. Someone better publish that woman’s album. We booked flights to DC to visit our new favorite store. Peeps for everyone! And then we stared at some Venn diagrams for a while but got distracted by all the colors.
Pigs may not fly and hell may not have frozen over (yet), but seeing some of our favorite Hollywood A-listers suddenly belt out a tune on-screen often feels like the equivalent. Sure, you may have been nominated for an Academy Award, Jeff Bridges and Kate Hudson, but can you carry a tune? While we’ve yet to screen Crazy Heart and Nine ourselves, according to the LA Times, apparently you can!
A look at some of our other favorite musical/acting savants after the jump.

Further fanning the flames of anticipation surrounding their recently-bumped-up forthcoming album, Spoon has released the cover art for Transference, which is due out January 19, 2010 in the US. Finally. The photograph itself is one from 1970 taken in Mississippi by renowned photographer William Eggleston, a photographer accustomed to having his work featured on an album cover or two. It was originally published in Eggleston’s Guide back in 1976.
It’s lovely and it makes us a bit nostalgic for other great album art that came out of the gallery world as opposed to a record company’s art department.

All across the globe, at all hours of the day, a child somewhere is playing with his food. Luckily for us, some of those kids grow up and continue to do so, providing us with some of the craziest — and most enticing — meals good enough to frame. We love to look at them so we scoured the internet to find our favorites, and, well, now we’re just hungry. A look at some more of the most delectable, edible, and scrumdiddlyumptious pieces of art after the jump.

The ladies over at Fashionista reported this morning that Zac Posen will be the latest in a line of designers tapped to design a capsule collection for Target. Hot on the heels of Anna Sui, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, and Alexander McQueen, Posen’s GO International line will launch online and in stores on April 25, 2010. But, without a single sketch or sample to gawk at until then, we figured we’d give Zac some suggestions. Some of our favorite looks off the Zac Posen runway we hope to see at your local strip mall after the jump.

If you haven’t already heard, it looks like America’s favorite performance artist Lady Gaga — she of the fashion envelope pushing — is definitely ineligible to for a Best New Artist Grammy when the nominees for 2009 are announced early next year despite reports to the contrary. Why, you ask? Because she was already nominated last year for “Just Dance” back when her only fans were clubgoers and the gays. Gaga lost then to Daft Punk, but she’s poised to be a major contender this year in other categories if not a shoo-in for the category she lost in 2008.
As for the gaping hole in the Best New Artist category that she leaves behind? Here’s a look at the acts we’ll be rooting for when nominations are announced.
