Valentine’s Day can be the source of frustration even for those celebrating, as finding a card that isn’t sub-par can become a life-or-death mission. After all, once the flowers prove more temporary than desired (sorry!) and the chocolate’s been eaten, the only physical reminder your significant other will have of the occasion may very well be the card, and no one wants to gift their hip/awesome/perfect guy or girlfriend with another sparkly cherub disaster. Luckily, the Internet is a great source for truly imaginative cards that don’t skimp out on the cute. Here are 20 choices that are downright frame-worthy. … Read More
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 5, Episode 2 Recap: “Lip Synch Extravaganza Eleganza”
After a great season premiere that introduced possibly the best group of queens the show has seen yet, in last night’s episode RuPaul’s Drag Race decided to celebrate its past. One of the strangest challenges in the history of the show found Ru assigning the current contestants to lip sync famous catfights from Untucked, the Drag Race sister program that finds the queens letting their hair down and their feelings (not to mention claws) out. … Read More

'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 5, Episode 1 Recap: "RuPaullywood or Bust"
The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Last night was the premiere of the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, in which 14 of America’s finest queens compete for the ultimate crown. While there can only be one winner, each of these girls has something unique to bring to the table, and because Drag Race is the most exclusive of all the competitive reality shows, every contestant should get a chance to feel like a winner. Each week this season, we’ll “rucap” the show by designating a unique title for each competitor; check out our first round of superlatives below. … Read More
Casting Tina Fey's Broadway Musical Adaptation of 'Mean Girls'
Last night on the SAG red carpet, Tina Fey delighted the world with the notion of writing a Mean Girls musical with her husband (who does all the 30 Rock music.) Being the modest goddess that she is, she hasn’t given much thought to her dream cast yet, aside from Mariah Carey as Mrs. George. Whether Mariah Carey can channel Amy Poehler is up for debate, but while Tina Fey works out the final details with Paramount and gets writing, all we have to entertain ourselves with until this momentous occasion of sheer joy is to dream up a cast ourselves. So, here’s Flavorwire’s ultimate fantasy cast for the teen comedy classic. … Read More
Everything We Know About ‘Mad Men’ Season 6, Plus Brand New Promo Photos
Earlier today, the premiere date for Season 6 of Mad Men was announced, along with news of the opening episode being a two-hour special. Unfortunately, April 7 is a long way away, and Matthew Weiner clearly doesn’t take pity on us with his “can’t tell you” attitude (actual quote — his lips are padlocked.)
However, with enough reading between the lines of interview quotes and just a little stalking of on-set photos, we’ve been able to compile everything we do know about this season, which apparently will be too good to completely avoid talking about it from excitement. … Read More
10 Frightening Futuristic Fashion Pieces
Fashion designer Anouk Wipprecht and software developer Daniel Schatzmayr recently debuted something quite unusual indeed: a robotic spider dress, where the limbs writhe immediately at any detection of movement. While it certainly falls under the category of high fashion (as any outfit requiring a microchip should), it’s also, well, kind of terrifying. And while some designers like Alexander Wang opt for a clean-cut, prettier version of the future, looking at the post-apocalyptic/radioactive/anthropomorphic vision can be a lot more fun. Here are some of the spookiest futuristic looks we found on the web. … Read More
See What Steve McCurry Did With the Last Roll of Kodachrome Film Ever
Kodachrome film, one of the first successful color films in history, was discontinued in 2009, as Kodak recognized that digital cameras were making physical film obsolete. But, before it was all gone, legendary photographer Steve McCurry (who had used Kodachrome in a substantial amount of his work) asked if he could have the honor of taking the last roll. … Read More
10 New Gadgets You Can’t Live Without
At last week’s Consumer Electronics Show, consumers were introduced to an assortment of new and exciting products, ranging from Razer Edge, the PC-gaming tablet and Best of Show winner, to Fitbit Flex, a cute, comfortable rubber bracelet that helps you track your fitness goals. But, while these are all great, there are a lot of new gadgets that seem more like necessities than, well, gadgets. Here are our top ten technological tools that we have no idea how we’ve lived without before now. … Read More
Parker Posey Talks ‘Party Girl’ and New York City, 18 Years Later
92Y Tribeca screened the 1995 cult classic Party Girl last night, followed by a Q&A with its star, Parker Posey, led by writer and film programmer Miriam Bale. While the film is largely beloved as a screwball comedy, in retrospect Posey’s Mary is much more surprising and layered than she even needed to be for the movie to be a success. She doesn’t party as a way of self-medication or clichéd cry for help – she enjoys every moment of her existence, and, even in the end, never shows remorse for who she is, despite discovering her calling as a librarian. While Posey says that she didn’t improvise any of the film and gives full credit to the script, it is easy to see how she was able to carry such a role with such finesse. … Read More
