We can’t believe that no one though of uniting these hipster obsessions before: mustaches and typography. Brilliant. Also we enjoy the fact that this makes clear something that we already knew: Never trust a guy with the didot. Click through to view it as a larger image. [via Buzzfeed]

Stephen Hawking Believes in Aliens

5

“We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet. I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach. [Contacting aliens would be] a little too risky … If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans.”

Stephen Hawking, as quoted in Discovery Channel’s three-part series Stephen Hawking’s Universe, is wary of aliens and nervous about direct contact. Turns out that ChatRoulette is an acceptable medium of communication, however. Have no idea what we’re talking about? Photo evidence* after the jump.

23

The world of Twitter can be hard to navigate. We know that you’re already following us @flavorpill, but we decided it would be fun (and possibly helpful) if we rounded up some of our other Twitter favorites in a series we’re calling “The Followables.” The first set of Twitter all-stars in the spotlight are the music critics we love. Do us a favor and leave a comment with anyone who you enjoy who didn’t make our list.

Diddy Appreciates the Arts

8

Yesterday, Diddy — who was in Paris for his Last Train To Paris launch party — posted a picture of himself in front of the Mona Lisa on Twitter. Other highlights from his trip included a trip to Notre Dame (“AT NOTRE DAME! WALKING AROUND THE STREETS OF PARIS WITH THE BADBOY FAMILY!!! J’ADORE PARIS!!”) and the Eiffel Tower (“At the Eiffel Tower drinking Ciroc straight no chaser!!!”). As we’ve never been big fans of La Joconde’s cryptic smile, we thought that the Diddy-fication of da Vinci’s famous work was a vast improvement. In fact, it made us wonder how Diddy could improve other works of art around the world.

Inside Peter Bjorn & John’s Secret Cake Shop Show

+

img_0353

Last night, after their massive New York debut to thousands at Madison Square Garden with Depeche Mode, Peter Bjorn & John and Stereogum planned a last-minute gig at the very intimate Cake Shop. They pulled most of their set from early work and a few oddly chosen cover songs, but everyone in the very full house was excited be one of the few just feet away from the band. More images after the jump. Read More »

2

On the back of some great Grill and Chill with our Weber Q140, asked you to tweet us @flavorpill with your answer to the question: What’s the craziest thing you’ve barbecued?

On top of the strong responses we got yesterday, some new tweets worthy of mention include @PatriciaRealini: “myself. i was 9 & i thought the grill was off. well, it wasn’t. my fingers looked like rare pork sausages for a week” and @lindsayliu: “I BBQd whole rats and monkey heads in Africa. What’s Happening on Twitter: Hashtag Games

1

Right now on Twitter, yet another hashtag game is underway. Two weeks ago, creative tweets were pouring out with the tag #filmfoodeating and some of our favorites included “Bill and Teds Excellent Avocado” (@eRiddle) and “Bakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo” (@poritsky).

Today, the games continue with #filmdrinkshots. The goal is similar, take a film title and change it to a delightful beverage. So far, in the office we’ve said “Lock Stock and Two Flaming Dr. Peppers” and “City Slickers 2: The Search for Patron Gold.”

What can you come up with? Send ‘em along to us @flavorpill!

Five of the Worst Raps by Celebrities

3

Some rappers can dive right into the acting world; Ice T is lovely as a detective, Ludacris (errm, Christopher Bridges) was good in Crash, and once upon a time, before he was the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith rapped. The opposite isn’t usually true. If you can’t flow, don’t flow, please. With that in mind, after the jump and in no particular order, a look at five of the worst celebrity rap attempts. Read More »

Two Weeks of Hip Hop with the Hood Internet

2

The Hood Internet have been pumping out mixtapes and mashups at alarming rates for years. As a Brooklyn resident (Crown Heights doesn’t equal race riots, in case you’re still wondering), I was hit particularly hard by “Good Ol’ Fashion Rump Shaker” pairing two Brooklyn heavy hitters, Matt & Kim (who we interviewed here) with the Beastie Boys. The latter is especially important for a Jewish boy that intended to be fresh for life.

Harder, Faster Keyboard: Daft Punk’s Console

1

daftpunk

Using your keyboard to type words is so passe. Take notice from the Daft Punk’s Console attaches a soundboard to the song “Harder, Faster, Stronger, Better.” A few presses of the “S” and “J” keys and we were caught up to Kanye’s remix. Now if we just had some DIY hints on how to whip up a few of those Discovery-era robot helmets…
