Adam Goldberg is a jack-of-all-trades — an actor, writer, producer, and musician. Whether he’s playing Mellish in Saving Private Ryan, the cynical New Yorker boyfriend in 2 Days in Paris, or recording intricately produced pop with members of the Flaming Lips, he has a sense of precision and creative flair that makes his work a pleasure to experience. In (Untitled), his film and music worlds bleed together, as he takes on the role of a tortured avant-garde composer pulled into the absurd jungle of the contemporary art world by a gorgeous gallery owner.
We caught up with Goldberg to learn more about the new film, discuss his most recent musical endeavor, and find out who he thinks would win in a battle of the bands face-off with Jason Schwartzman.

This week, indie-rock heroes Built to Spill release their seventh full-length album, There Is No Enemy. The new album captures the full spectrum of the band’s sound, showcasing frontman Doug Martsch’s knack for writing catchy pop songs, while also delving into the jam-centric, dual-guitar-driven rock attack that Built to Spill is known for. We caught up with Martsch to learn about the album’s recording process, talk about his love for performing cover songs, and get the inside scoop about the band’s two-month US tour.

Kyp Malone’s anticipated solo project Rain Machine is more experimental than anything his band TV on the Radio have put out. It’s an album that is personal and raw; it’s Malone at his most exposed. Gone is the sonic fuzz, leaving space for more melodic instrumentation and allowing more focus on his lyrical content. Lush, Astral Weeks-eqsue orchestration, stripped-down, bluesy acoustic guitar/banjo strums, tribal drum beats, and soulful gospel breakdowns are all tied together by Malone’s soulful croak. After catching his tour kick-off at Bell House earlier this week, we got together with Malone to learn a little more about the project. Read More »
By day Gala Bell (aka Meredith Metcalf) is one-third of theatrically complex indie rockers Bodies of Water, but by night she’s a dancing queen, a Silverlake Donna Summers performing glistening disco pop that would make the Bee Gees jealous. Bell, along with Torg (Adam Siegel) and Kamer (Daniel Metcalf), is part of the L.A. dance rock trio Music Go Music; their sound is an intoxicating blend of disco, prog rock, ’70s soft rock, and metal, all neatly packed together with a melodic pop sensibility that makes it immediately accessible and irresistibly danceable. We caught up with Bell to learn a little bit more about the band and their new music video for “Light of Love” (a Flavorpill exclusive). Read More »
