Could a web series involving Neil Patrick Harris and puppets be anything other than absolutely wonderful? Our friends at Laughspin just tipped us off to Neil’s Puppet Dreams, which debuted earlier today on Nerdist’s YouTube channel. “Each episode revolves around one of my puppet-laden dreams,” Harris explains. “As it turns out, I’m a bit of a narcoleptic and unfortunately all of my dreams involve creatures of the felt persuasion, ranging from lullabies to documentaries, from fantasies to music videos.” Click through to check out the first installment now. … Read More

A Very Special Thanksgiving Message from Larry David
While it’s still too early to say whether this animated “Thanksgiving special” from Larry David will become a classic, it did make us laugh out loud a few times. “What I didn’t get about Thanksgiving was that it was the only day of the year we had turkey,” he explains, in typical Larry David fashion. “If it was so good, then how come we were eating chicken three times a week. What was so special about turkey? I mean it was just a bigger chicken. And why did turkey have stuffing and not chicken? What was stuffing anyway? Was it part of the turkey? And if it was part of the turkey, how come it wasn’t part of the chicken? The whole thing was very confusing.” And so on. Anyway, if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to spend Thanksgiving in Brooklyn with the Davids, now you know. Spoiler alert: there’s a lot of screaming. … Read More
Hear Lizzy Caplan and Fred Willard Talk Dirty About Gender
Lizzy Caplan is a cult-favorite 30-year-old actress known for her dry wit. Fred Willard is a 73-year-old actor, comedian, and Christopher Guest lifer who made headlines a few months ago after his arrest for “engaging in a lewd act” in a porn theater. They make a pretty unlikely pair, but then again, the project that brings them together is also an unlikely one.
It’s OK to Do Stuff is a 40th-anniversary tribute to Marlo Thomas’ era-defining Free to Be… You and Me, the all-star kids album that taught Generation X about feminism. The new version is a loving parody of the original, featuring the voices of everyone from Eugene Mirman to Andy Richter to Samantha Bee. In their skit, “Girl Meets Boy,” Baby Lizzy schools Baby Fred on the intricacies of gender identity. If you’ve ever wanted to hear Caplan talk about “the phallocentric hierarchy of gender construction” — and who hasn’t? — click through and listen to the clip. You can stream the full album here, or pay $5 to download it. All proceeds go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. … Read More

Jeremy Renner’s Awkward ‘SNL’ Promos Have Us Worried
First things first: We’re huge fans of Jeremy Renner’s work around here. He was great in The Avengers, and made the Bourne reboot something that we could actually get excited about — not to mention his well-deserved Oscar nominations for The Town and The Hurt Locker. All of that said, after watching the promos for this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, we’re wondering if Renner’s going to totally bomb. Outside of the silly outfits montage at the end, we didn’t crack a smile once. We’re certainly not saying that dramatic actors can’t be funny, but it seems like SNL doesn’t really know what to do with them, other than making them look stupid (see: last season’s Josh Brolin episode). Anyway, take a look, and let us know if you still plan on watching in the comments. … Read More
New Louis CK Comedy Special to Air on HBO in 2013
Although he famously and successfully self-released his most recent comedy special, last year’s Live at the Beacon Theater, Louis CK is returning to traditional distribution channels for his next concert film. The upcoming hour-long performance will be taped at a stop on the comedian’s current tour and is slated to debut on HBO in 2013.… Read More
This Is Why MTV Doesn’t Show Music Videos Anymore
We can’t remember the last time that we flipped to MTV expecting to see a music video, but it’s safe to say that it was probably in the early ’90s. This hilarious video by Brian Firenzi and Maria Del Carmen of 5 Second Films, which we spotted on Uproxx, explains why the network abandoned its roots, and while it might be a comedy sketch, it is rather on point. We killed music videos with our Napsters and our LimeWires, and what’s more, we’re old now — MTV doesn’t really care if we don’t like Teen Mom 2. Also: there’s the Internet. Click through to check out the clever clip, but be warned: It kind of stings when Firenzi points out that the complaint that MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore is literally old enough to drive a car by now. … Read More

Louis CK Is Even Funny When He’s Cancelling a Show
As you may have heard, there’s a bit of a weather event headed towards the Northeast—or, to put it another way, a “monster sandy franken storm Paul Bunyon shitcloud might start throwing trees at babies in Manhattan.” That’s how Hurricane Sandy was described by Louis CK, who was scheduled to do two sold-out shows tonight at New York City Center—shows that he has now, unsurprisingly, decided to cancel. But being Louis CK, he’s managed to turn the cancellation of two big shows into comedy. … Read More
Watch Nick Offerman Perform a Hilarious Love Song for Megan Mullally
Now that their Parks and Recreation cast mate Amy Poehler has called it quits with Will Arnett, it’s up to Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally to keep us in comedy power couple adorableness. Thankfully, that’s something they do quite well. It’s the rare Offerman interview that doesn’t include the actor rhapsodizing over his wife’s beauty, talent, and poise. And last night on Letterman, he gave us a taste of the song he wrote for Mullally’s 50th birthday. Although he only played a minute of so of what sounded to be a fairly lengthy composition, we got lyrics about Cialis, leprechauns, how she “made me your bitch, and I made you my wife.” Watch Offerman strum his acoustic guitar below, and perhaps daydream that he’s singing to you. … Read More
