A Maya Angelou Hip-Hop Album is Coming Your Way
Pretty soon, we’ll all be listening to Maya Angelou do hip-hop. The iconic poet (who already has three Grammys under her belt for her spoken-word albums) has a new record coming out November 4 that blends her words with hip-hop beats. The album, entitled Caged Bird Songs and produced by Shawn Rivera and RoccStarr, features some previously recorded vocals by Angelou, and some she recorded specifically for the project, and sounds just wonderful.
“Grandma loved it from the beginning,” Angelou’s grandson Colin A. Johnson said of the concept. “These guys were inspired by grandma’s work, which many people are, and felt like giving it a different medium of delivery to make it more obtainable to a larger group of people.” Can’t go wrong with that.
