ABC picked up a batch of new pilots on Monday including, of course, one from the network’s reigning champion Shonda Rhimes. The Catch is a drama from co-producers Rhimes and Betsy Beers and written by Hannibal‘s Jennifer Schur. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Catch “centers on a gutsy female forensic accountant who exposes fraud for a living and has finally found fulfillment both at work and in love until a case comes along that threatens to turn her world upside down.” So, a vaguely interesting plot that will surely have an amazing cast and prove to be embarrassingly addictive? Rhimes knows her bread and butter.
Also picked up was a drama called Broad Squad (from Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz) that unfortunately isn’t a spinoff of Broad City but instead about the first few women who graduated from Boston’s Police Academy.
As for comedies, ABC picked up an untitled Dan Savage project that is semi-autobiographical and focuses on what happens to his family with their son comes out of the closet. Finally, there is Chev & Bev, starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo as baby boomers who suddenly have to raise their grandchildren. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
