Amanda Palmer Writes Open Letter Telling Morrissey to Create a Kickstarter

Singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer is good at getting press — it is, of course, part of a musician’s job, and Palmer’s ability to piss off a lot of people by suggesting that people pay her money for the luxury of having her record music (before having them pay for the luxury of hearing it, mind you) has brought many headlines featuring her name in the last few months. It’s no surprise, then, that Palmer is trying to get the attention of those whose music (and press tactics) have inspired her. In an open letter to Morrissey, Palmer urges the sad Brit to ask for his fans to pay five dollars each to help him record a new digital album. “The Internet is now at the point where your fans will basically do the work of spreading the existence of your project for you, especially once they’ve hopped on to support it,” she writes. After you’ve finished using the web today to connect with friends, pay your bills, and find driving directions to the mall, perhaps you should consider what it is really for: paying famous rich people money so that they can create more art!
