Classy lady extraordinaire will be joining Anna Kendrick and Allison Janney in the cast of the movie adaptation of hit Sondheim musical Into the Woods, backed by Warner Brothers/Disney and directed by Rob Marshall. Arranger David Krane, who worked with Streep on the stage musical Happy End in 1977, broke the news to the Litchfield County Times. Streep will be playing the witch — not too far off from ice queen fashion editor Miranda Priestly, perhaps Streep’s most memorable villainous character. [via Broadway World]
