Best New Twitter: @DalkeyIntern

Have you read about the truly bonkers job listing Dalkey Archive Press posted this week, demanding downright slavish commitment from highly qualified applicants who wouldn’t even be paid initially? The press’ soon-to-retire publisher, John O’Brien has since explained that it was “a modest proposal. Serious and not-serious at one and the same time.” Huh. But still kinda serious, right?

Anyway, the publishing industry is already responding with clever riffs on the job listing — and our favorite so far is the Twitter account @DalkeyIntern. Some of its greatest hits so far: “You get PAID for your job? Enjoy the rat race. Some of us are principled enough to do our jobs for the love of literature alone.”; “I once accidentally read a book that wasn’t published by the Dalkey Archive. When I realised what I’d done, I cried for hours.”; “Every time I finish a particularly tiresome batch of filing, I feel a warm glow of satisfaction for a job well done. I love books!”
