‘Boyhood’ Director Richard Linklater’s Next Project Is a “Spiritual Sequel” to ‘Dazed and Confused’

Richard Linklater, the director who charmed (and is still charming) summer audiences with his 12-year masterpiece Boyhood, has announced he’s dropping a current project — The Incredible Mr. Limpet — to create a new film that’s closer to his heart. He wants to capitalize on the praise and publicity of Boyhood to pursue his next endeavor, That’s What I’m Talking About, the “spiritual sequel” (as he’s called it) to his 1993 hit Dazed and Confused. That’s What I’m Talking About will be set at a university in the 1980s and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “follows freshmen as they navigate through the first year of college life, while trying to make the baseball team.” The film is based on Linklater’s life, and will likely begin shooting this fall.
