People were so enthralled by Empire‘s first season that — perhaps unless it shifted the show to center entirely around Taraji P. Henson’s endlessly popular Cookie Lyon — it seemed it’d be hard for the series to top itself. It’d have been equally hard for it to top its Season 1 guest list, which included Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Gladys Knight.
But while the Cookie fantasy is certainly just a fantasy, the show’s announcement of its Season 2 guest stars will likely lead the country into a chorus of giddy noises and an eruption of enthusiastic tweets throughout the day. Dana Walden, Fox TV chairman and CEO, announced yesterday that guests include Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz. There have also been suggestions — but no confirmation — that Oprah and Common will likewise appear in the upcoming season. Given that the season is six episodes longer than its first (there’ll be 18 episodes in total), it’d doubtful anyone would complain about them making a little room for more tantalizing potential guests.
