Comedy Central Is Hosting a Five-Day Comedy Festival… on Twitter

Because Comedy Central and its parent company Viacom are hip with the kids, the network’s latest all-star comedy festival will take place entirely on the Internet, namely Twitter. Performers including Mel Brooks and Paul Feig will record stand-up routines that will in turn be posted in video form next week. It’s an opportunity for Comedy Central to build its brand outside of television and for Twitter to make its name as not just a social medium but an entertainment platform as well. In a delightfully meta twist, Judd Apatow and Carl Reiner will participate in a live panel discussion with Brooks in which they attempt to convince him to join Twitter. There is, of course, a hashtag for the entire affair: #ComedyFest. [via NY Times]
