Good news for Community’s dedicated fanbase: the NBC comedy returned to the airwaves last night with four million viewers, a 6% increase over the Season 3 premiere and a pleasant surprise for a show that the network didn’t exactly promote heavily, especially compared to Smash — which Community beat by an impressive margin of 50%. The spike is reassuring for both fans forced to wait for the midseason premiere and the show’s prospects for scoring a fifth season. Not bad for a time slot that’s also home to American Idol.
