David Lynch Not All That Interested in Making Another Movie

Beloved director David Lynch has managed to stay active in pop culture, but mostly for his recent musical efforts. Fans have waited for a follow-up to Inland Empire for years, but even after rumors of new projects, it doesn’t seem like Lynch really wants to make another movie. Despite his ever-expanding cult, he doesn’t feel all that compatible with the current film industry:

“It’s a very depressing picture. With alternative cinema – any sort of cinema that isn’t mainstream – you’re fresh out of luck in terms of getting theatre space and having people come to see it. Even if I had a big idea, the world is different now,” the filmmaker recently told The Independent. “Unfortunately, my ideas are not what you’d call commercial, and money really drives the boat these days. So I don’t know what my future is. I don’t have a clue what I’m going to be able to do in the world of cinema.”

But before you get too disappointed, Lynch hasn’t lost all hope for the moving picture — he’s as excited about TV as the rest of us. “[Television] is way more interesting than cinema now. It seems like the art-house has gone to cable.” We like the way that sounds. [via The Playlist]
