The careers of the Flight of the Conchords have flown in odd directions — for Bret McKenzie, to Hobbit-land and some kind of obscurity, and for Jemaine Clement, it’s been the world of indies. (It’s shocking to realize that we first heard/saw “Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros” in 2007, and not a decade prior.) Anyway, it’s been a particularly strong season for Clement, who is following up his very promising vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows with a dramatic turn in the upcoming movie, People, Places, Things.
In it, Clement is a single father of two kids who is, apparently, just tryin’ to get by. The clip below finds him sandwiched between his two progeny, who’re handling giant slices of pizza while he tries to negotiate something over the phone. The film is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, and is directed by The Winning Season‘s James C. Strouse. Hopefully it gets picked up, because it wouldn’t be the worst thing if someone of Clement’s talent had a major career resurgence.
