Gabourey Sidibe Joins ‘American Horror Story: Coven’

The Oscar-nominated star of Precious was publicly ridiculed years ago by Howard Stern, who proclaimed on his radio show that the actress’s weight would prevent her from being a successful, working performer. (Sidibe also revealed that Joan Cusack gave her the unsolicited advice her to quit show business because “it’s so image-conscious.”)  Of course, Sidibe has proven both of them wrong. Despite a particularly unfortunate role as a maid in Brett Ratner’s Tower Heist, Sidibe has been a regular role on Showtime’s cancer dramedy The Big C for the past three seasons. Now the actress is giving us another reason to anticipate the upcoming third season of American Horror Story: she’ll be joining AHS regulars Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Even Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, and Frances Conroy (as well as Oscar-winner Kathy Bates) on the newest edition of Ryan Murphy’s psychosexual horror series, subtitled Coven. Let’s hope she gets to play a bad witch. [via Hollywood Reporter]
