A trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s giant robot spectacle has finally arrived, and Michael Bay should be feeling totally jealous right about now. After all the viral goodies we’ve been teased with, the first clip for Pacific Rim doesn’t disappoint. The film sets us in a world where soldiers pilot massive robots that have been tasked with battling enormous sea monsters from an otherworldly place beneath the sea. It looks like complete Cthulhu-esque chaos. Del Toro’s “beautiful poem to giant monsters” is an homage to Japanese monster movies (kaiju). Video game fans: note the GLaDOS appearance (from the Portal series). Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day, and opens July 12. [via Slash Film]
