Director Gus Van Sant is lending his support as executive producer to Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan’s transgender drama, Laurence Anyways, cementing a 2013 US release. The film about an intense 10-year relationship a male-to-female transsexual (Melvil Poupaud) shares with her fiancée (Suzanne Clément) has already secured numerous awards, including the Queer Palm at Cannes, the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress at Cannes (Clément), and TIFF’s Best Canadian Feature Film. Dolan has already announced plans for a new project — an adaptation of Michel Marc Bouchard’s play Tom à la Ferme — but we’re thrilled to see theatrical coverage expand for this ambitious and emotional story.
