A new David Bowie album and single, a new Suede album and single, and now — a Tom Waits/Keith Richards collaboration! This week has been good to rock ‘n’ roll fans. Last month we brought you news of Son of Rogue’s Gallery, the sequel to Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Carribbean-inspired all-star sea shanty comp. The album is packed with dream collaborations, but All Songs Considered has premiered the most exciting one: Waits and Richards’ cover of the traditional song “Shenandoah.” Hear their simply strummed, scratchy-throated version — which sounds a bit like it’s being sung by a ship full of drunken pirates, in the best possible way — at NPR.
