‘Independence Day 2’ Gets Release Date, Sounds Terrible

Fox has announced a July 3, 2015 release date for Independence Day 2, in spite of the fact that the original film will be nearly 20 years old, it hasn’t aged terribly well, it wasn’t all that good to begin with, and its star probably won’t be involved.

Total Film reports that Will Smith “is not expected to return,” but Bill Pullman (shocker) is available, and director/co-writer Roland Emmerich has big ideas for ID4-2. “It’s still some of the same characters, but also new younger characters,” he explains, his eyes lit with the storytelling ingenuity you’d expect from the man behind 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow. “It’s a little bit like the sons take over.”

Ah yes, “the sons take over.” Because that worked out so well for A Good Day to Die Hard and that Beverly Hills Cop TV show. Can’t wait!
