Jay-Z Steals Kanye’s Thunder, Announces July 4 Album Release

The other half of the Watch the Throne duo may get all the credit for taking self-regard to new heights, but it takes a lot of guts to call your album Magna Carta Holy Grail — then release it on July 4th. The parallels to Yeezus are obvious (religious name, extremely short pre-release notice, at least some Rick Rubin production), but the album will also feature Pharrell and Timbaland and enjoys a gimmicky partnership with Samsung whereby 1 million Galaxy users will win the album for free with an app. That’s if the album doesn’t leak five days early, of course. Watch the announcement video above, then prepare yourself for the inevitable Yeezus vs. MCHG Internet wars. [via Vulture]
