Yesterday was yet another difficult day for America. The white officer who killed Eric Garner was given a break as a Staten Island jury chose not to indict him. This, on the heels of the case in Ferguson, resulted in more protests across the country, and again sparked necessary conversation about the state of race relations in the U.S.
One of the many voices chiming in on the subject was Jon Stewart’s, the comedian who has, against all odds, become one of the clearest voices of reason in the media. Commenting briefly on the Eric Garner case, Stewart said simply, “We are definitely not living in a post-racial society. And I can imagine there are a lot of people wondering how much of a society we’re living in at all.”
