Listen: Bette Midler Covers TLC’s “Waterfalls.” Yup.

I woke up today, expecting it to be a day like any other. How could I have known that, rather, it’d be a day when Bette Midler releases her cover of TLC’s “Waterfalls?” For it is that day, because Bette Midler has decided not to heed a certain song’s advice (said advice being, of course, “Don’t go chasing waterfalls/Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you’re used to”). But actually I’m pretty ecstatic Midler chased this waterfall, because why the hell not have a “Wind Beneath My Wings” version of this timeless R&B song? Unfortunately, she chose not to Midlerfy Lisa Lopes’ rap verse — perhaps there are just some edgier types of waterfalls (or rivers? or lakes?) that can’t be set to piano, assorted string instruments, light maracas and bongos (all of which you’ll note below!)

And here’s “Wind Beneath My Wings,” should you find yourself wanting a touch more Midler.
