Last year, Lorde fans had to grimace through the need to be enthusiastic about a song called “Yellow Flicker Beat” (which admittedly turned out to be quite good, despite that title) and announcements about the Lorde-curated — whatever that really means — Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 Soundtrack. For in 2014, all that was consistently the biggest Lorde news. 2015 is already seeming far more eventful for the artist: she kicked it off with a weird, Taylor Swift-curated “friend” trip to Catalina Island with Swift and the Haim sisters.
And now, her Pure Heroine collaborator/producer Joel Little has said that “within the next month or so [they’ll] be in the studio,” working on her next album. Billboard quotes Little speaking with Australia’s radio station triple j, saying, “We haven’t got some planned out ‘this is what it’s going to sound like’… I think we’re just going to start writing and when it starts to feel right, we’ll know that it’s right. It’s pretty simple really.” From what we see of her ordering ice cream w/ Taylor Swift, we can assume she’ll have plenty of scintillatingly vanilla, furiously banal source material for this next album.
