Martin Scorsese’s New York Review of Books Documentary Premieres on HBO in September

“The adventure of thought and the sensuality of ideas,” is what interested director and legend Martin Scorsese about the idea of documenting The New York Review of Books in a film called The 50 Year Argument, which is due to premiere on HBO on September 29th.

Co-directed with David Tedschi, The 50 Year Argument will profile NYRB’s founding editor Robert Silvers and the characters who made up the publication, including the late co-editor Barbara Epstein, through verite footage, rare archives, and interviews. Throughout the magazine’s history, it’s shaped ideas with probing examinations from the literary lights of the last fifty years, from Norman Mailer to Joan Didion. If you are of a certain nerdy literary tendency, you should probably plan your Monday night HBO party now.
