MGMT’s follow-up to 2010′s Congratulations, tentatively due out in June, isn’t going to be any more accessible, nor will it return to the indie feel of their first album, Oracular Spectacular, according to Pitchfork. In an interview in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, MGMT duo Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden told the magazine that the record takes inspiration from house music, with Aphex Twin as an influence. The album will include tracks with titles like “Mystery Disease” and “Alien Days,” and feature a cover of Faine Jade’s “Introspection.” Goldwasser said in a press conference that there is “no illusion on [Columbia Records'] part that that we’re going to turn into a Top 40 band.” Though the last thing we want is a desperate play for mainstream success, it sounds like MGMT are about to get a whole lot weirder.
