Michael Fassbender to Star in Justin Kurzel’s ‘Macbeth’

While Alan Cumming is currently playing every single role in The Scottish Play on Broadway, William Shakespeare’s famous tale of murder, corruption, and witchcraft will be heading back to the big screen. Cinematic greats like Roman Polanski, Akira Kurosawa, and Orson Welles have all had their chances to direct film versions of Macbeth, but Australian director Justin Kurzel will helm the newest adaptation, this time starring Michael Fassbender. Kurzel is known best for his thriller Snowtown, another film full of torture and murder. With the production team behind Steve McQueen’s Shame also on board, this Macbeth shows a lot of promise, though it’ll be tough to beat Billy Morrissette’s comic adaptation Scotland, PA, because every Shakespeare film could use a dose of Christopher Walken and a Bad Company soundtrack.
