Netflix and the Weinstein Company have inked a multi-year deal to “reinvent the pay TV experience,” according to a rather hyperbolic press release (printed in its entirety on Deadline). How will they do so, you may ask?
Starting with its 2016 theatrically released feature films, new TWC and Dimension Films titles will be made available for Netflix members to watch instantly in the pay TV window on multiple platforms, including televisions, tablets, mobile phones and computers.
So, Netflix will have exclusive rights on all of The Weinstein Company’s movies. Or, if you’d like to look at it cynically, after TWC is done bowdlerizing foreign films, you can watch them on Netflix in the wrong aspect ratio.
