New Trailer For ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Promises More of the Same Old Dumb

Dumb and Dumber, the 1994 slapstick classic, doesn’t seem ripe for a sequel. The movie, though it succeeded impressively at world-building, was tied around a fairly succinct plot that was left with little or no strings hanging. When 2003 brought an undercooked prequel, Dumb and Dumberer, the world reacted appropriately, giving it $26 million in comparison to the original’s $250 million.

But when the first trailer for Dumb and Dumber To was released back in June, the general consensus was something along the lines of, “Hey, this actually looks pretty good.” And now, with the release of a second trailer, that thought has evolved into something more like, “Hey, this might be worth paying money to see,” which, in an age of piracy, is about all any studio could ask for. The storyline seems to center around the quest to find Harry’s supposed daughter, played by Emma Stone, and Lloyd’s gross attraction to her. (Does everyone remember this?) Add a couple of sight gags — poorly aimed Binaca! riding on a statue of an elk! — and we’ve either got another blockbuster on our hands, or one of the year’s most cringe-worthy comedies.

The film is to be released November 14. Until then, here’s a thought: Jeff Daniels is in both this movie and The Newsroom. Talk about versatility.
