Slimed! An Oral History of Nickelodeon’s Golden Age author Mathew Klickstein had been preparing an evening of “Nostalgic Nonsense” in conjunction with New York Comic Con’s Super Week at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The event has, however, officially been cancelled. The frenzy that led to the cancellation began when a Flavorwire interview — in which the Slimed! author expressed certain controversial views on diversity in television — went viral. Just this morning, the Slimed! An Oral History Twitter page announced:
Of course, there were surely plenty of people who merely wanted to get their Slime on without asserting that being a white man in America is hard. Indeed, their interest was solely in seeing a performance by Polaris, a live taping of a podcast by the stars of Pete and Pete, and indulging in other forms of “nostalgic nonsense.” Those people can now get refunded for their tickets at Ticketmaster, and a different Polaris show seems like it’s in the works, though nothing has been confirmed.
UPDATE: Two performances that were part of the event — The Adventures of Danny and Mike LIVE and Polaris! The Show — have been rescheduled. They’ll still be tonight, but at 11 PM at The Bell House in Brooklyn. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased here.
