PJ Harvey has announced her collaboration on a book of poetry with photographer/filmmaker Seamus Murphy (director of all 12 music videos from Harvey’s 2011 album, Let England Shake), to be released October 2015, titled The Hollow of the Hand. The book details her travels to places such as Washington, D.C., Afghanistan and Kosovo in the years following the release of the war-based Let England Shake.
“Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about,” Harvey wrote in a statement. She continues:
“I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with. My friend Seamus Murphy and I agreed to grow a project together – I would collect words, he would collect pictures, following our instincts on where we should go.”
This isn’t the first news we’ve heard of Harvey’s secondary career as a poet. She did a debut poetry reading in December, 2013 at the British Library:
