There are so many surprises in music nowadays that the whole act of surprising has become completely normalized. Given the plethora of surprise releases this year and last, what was once an unexpected treat now often seems a semi-cute inconvenience. And, recently, Prince semi-cutely inconvenienced European fans by announcing tour locations with deliberately little notice. Now, it’s quite clear that Prince will be doing the same thing with the U.S. leg of his tour. Only one date and city have been announced — Louisville, KY on March 14 (tickets go on sale March 9) — but the venue remains unknown.
Since this is considered part of his “Hit and Run” tour, it’s expected that he’ll follow the first show up with more shows — we just won’t know where or when they’ll be until shortly before. Pitchfork notes that Prince recently deleted his social media — he used Twitter to announce his European tour dates, so it’s entirely unclear what platform the artist will be using for the U.S. dates. He’s touring with his band 3RDEYEGIRL, in promotion both of their collaborative album, Plectrumelectrum, and his solo album, Art Official Age.
