Robyn is Launching a Tech Festival for Young Women

Robyn is the boss of so many things — sing-rapping, electronica, dancing amazingly in platform shoes — and now she’s going to be the boss of a tech festival, Tekla, to be held in her native Sweden. Tekla, as described in a press release, is “a festival for girls, in which they get to sample different areas of future technology in what I believe will be a fun and imaginative environment.”

Robyn creating a tech festival is maybe a left-field decision for the singer-songwriter-backflipper, but in 2013 she won a major tech/innovation award from Sweden’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology. In the statement accompanying the award, the Institute said — and excuse the stilted translation — “In creating, she uses the new technology in IT, audio and video in innovative and exciting ways.”

Now, two years later, she’s furthered her involvement in tech by hoping to get young women involved. Tekla will be held on April 18, for any interested ladies in Sweden. She’s also working on an album and EP, though no word on tentative release dates for those.
