Scarlett Johansson to Star in TV Show Based on Edith Wharton Novel

scarjoScarlett Johansson will be starring and producing an eight-part TV series based on the Edith Wharton novel Custom of the Country, according to Deadline.

Custom of the Country, a major influence on Julian Fellows’ creation of the BBC drama Downton Abbey, is about the young Undine Spragg, a Midwestern woman attempting to climb the ranks of New York high society at the turn of the 20th century. The show will be written by Atonement writer Christopher Hampton and put on by Sony Pictures TV.
