Between the gummy skulls and the marijuana-flavored merch and the Heady Fwends collaborations, it was starting to look like The Flaming Lips had ceased to be a proper band, morphing instead into the living embodiment of Spencer Gifts. But it turns out Wayne Coyne and co. still believe in albums — they’re putting out their 13th, and first since 2009′s Embyronic, April 1st. The record is called The Terror, and according to Coyne (via NME) it contains “nine original compositions that reflect a darker-hued spectrum than previous works along with a more inward-looking lyrical perspective than one might expect – but then again, maybe not.” Considering that Embryonic wasn’t particularly cheery, that’s saying something.
