With the release date of Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland creeping closer and closer, the director’s big media moment has also provoked the question: will there be an Incredibles 2? And Bird has (almost) supplied an answer. In a new interview with Collider, Bird confirmed(ish) that The Incredibles 2 would be his next project, saying “Yeah it feels like it to me, yeah.” This leads to speculation that he will probably not replace Josh Trank as director on the next Star Wars movie. Finally getting a sequel to The Incredibles, however, will more than make up for the loss.
He said of the status of the script:
Oh yeah I have pages, a bunch of pages. I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like. I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.
But not to worry: until then, Pixar will continue to bombard us with other, lesser sequels we vaguely wanted, like Toy Story 4, Finding Dory, and another accident in the never-ending catastrophe that is the Cars series.
