It’s been a little while since we got an update on the Tupac Shakur biopic, which saw Antoine Fuqua and John Singleton leaving the project in the dust. While the news was disappointing, it looks like a hot Sundance scribe has been summoned to tackle the screenplay, reviving the film about the fallen MC. George Tillman Jr.’s The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete has been getting a lot of buzz in Utah, and the film’s writer, Michael Starrbury, has been hired to rewrite the Tupac project. It’s a positive sign and could mean that collaborator Tillman, who directed the Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious, may be tapped as director down the road. Slash Film speculates that Mister and Pete star Anthony Mackie, who actually played Tupac in Tillman’s Notorious, could potentially star as the rapper in the long lingering biopic. Are we just playing six degrees or could this a perfect match?
