Long after his death, Kurt Cobain continues to be one of the most intriguing musicians in pop culture. He had the kind of compassion and social awareness that was very rare for Gen X-ers, but proves to be increasingly common in today’s youth. You get the impression that he still had a lot left to teach us, which is on full display in a new episode of PBS Digital Studios’ series Blank on Blank. The series animates interviews with important cultural fixtures like David Foster Wallace, Janis Joplin, and the Beastie Boys, and their use of a lost interview with Cobain is a huge treat. In the above interview, Cobain opens up about sexual confusion, his relationship with his mother, and the peace he found in the birth of Frances Bean.
